Polycarbonate - Engineering Plastic

Polycarbonates are a particular group of thermoplastic polymers. This type of Polymer got its name because it is a polymer having functional groups linked together by carbonate groups in its molecular chain.

This engineering plastic is more common in house ware products like tableware, reusable bottles and food storage container that can be microwave or left in a cold refrigerator. It is also common in high impact resistance, temperature resistance and were optical properties are required. An example of high impact resistance product is bulletproof windows as well as compact disks (CD). In optical properties it is the corrective/protective eye lenses that you use as well as the sunglasses, which have filter to block ultra-violet rays and near- UV rays.

This type of plastic is also used in the electronics industry. It is excellent for electrical applications, because of its high dielectric strength and high volume resistively which decreases only slightly as temperature or humidity is increased. Modular Switches also use polycarbonate. These are domestic use modular switches. Another product that uses polycarbonates are KwH Meter housing single phase as well as three phase meters used in Domestic and industrial KwH meter housings. These are metering devices, kept outside each house or establishment which uses Polycarbonate grades for their housings.

Polycarbonates is a high-strength, flexible material; so durable that it has been used on the windows of the President's limo and cockpit windows on jet fighters. It yields the same integrity as steel moldboards and offers additional benefits that make it the professional snowplow's choice. Polycarbonate is a tough, dimensionally stable, transparent thermoplastic that has many applications which demand high performance properties.

There are many different grades that are available to meet the needs of the product you are producing. The only way to find out what would be the best for your manufactured good is by consulting a representative that is knowledgeable on what is right for the results you are aiming for.
